” Writing about Brian Blade & The Fellowship Band in The New York Times (4.23.2015), Nate Chinen opined: “The warmth and elasticity of this ensemble suggest a modern amalgam of rustic Americana, from gospel to jazz to folk to country…Drummer Brian Blade [is] one of the most unaffectedly charis-matic musicians in jazz.” Now celebrating its 20th year, the group released its debut album, Brian Blade Fellowship, in 1998. Three more acclaimed CDs followed: Perceptual in 2000, Season of Changes in 2008, and Landmarks in 2014. A native of Shreveport, Louisiana, from 1988 through 1993 Brian Blade studied and played with many of the master musicians of New Orleans, including Ellis Marsalis, Steve Masakowski, Germaine Bazzle, and Alvin “Red” Tyler. Quite possibly the most in-demand drummer working today, he has been a member of the Wayne Shorter Quartet since 2000, and has also worked with Joni Mitchell, Marianne Faithfull, Emmylou Harris, Herbie Hancock, and Bob Dylan. “[His] rich tapestry of cymbal variations, swelling snare–rolls and asymmetrical accents, cou¬pled with an unfaltering heartbeat of a pulse, marks out an unusually emotional drummer.” (The Guardian)
