” This week, Jazz Standard is proud to present the prodigiously talented saxophonist, composer, and producer Ben Wendel in his first appearance as a leader on our stage. Born in Vancouver B.C. and now residing in Brooklyn, Ben has released three solo albums. His latest, What We Bring (Motema Music, 2016) was recorded with pianist Gerald Clayton and bassist Joe Martin – both of whom will join Ben on the bandstand for this engagement. Ben Wendel is a founding member of the acclaimed group Kneebody, whose collaboration with vocalist Theo Bleckmann, Twelve Songs By Charles Ives, was nominated for Best Classical Crossover Album in the 52nd annual GRAMMY Awards. His critically acclaimed music video project The Seasons, inspired by Tchaikovsky’s works of the same name, was released in 2015 and included guests such as Joshua Redman, Jeff Ballard, Mark Turner, and Julian Lage. ”
